Gail On the Issues

Someone once said, “If you want to know what a person will do, then look at what she has done.”

For more than 16 years in the Georgia House of Representatives, in the spirit of bipartisan cooperation, Gail Buckner has authored and passed bills to help protect Georgia citizens from unfair health care policies by insurance companies, to address consumer concerns and to provide safe schools for students and teachers. Her constituents appreciate and love her, having returned her to office in the 2004 election with almost 91 percent of the vote.

No one wins honors from voters without being an effective public servant. For nearly two decades, Gail Buckner has been one of Georgia's most effective and efficient public servants. She has always been progressive in taking on the hard issues.

Gail persists until the job is done, and done right! She chaired the House Appropriations Human Services Committee while also serving on the Appropriations Economic Development Committee. She has been responsible for reviewing billions of state budget dollars and thousands of state employees and programs.

Gail chaired the second phase House Oversight Committee for the building of the State Archives. She was so effective that Friends of the Archives presented her with their Legislator of the Year Award. She also has been honored twice by the Georgia Breast Cancer Coalition for her solid record supporting cancer research and screening initiatives.

The Georgia Congress of Democratic Women presented Gail with the Maxine Goldstein Award and the Cobb Democratic Women presented her with their Woman in the House Award.

  • She'll engage citizen groups to help provide picture IDs for all citizens as a helpful method to protect personal safety , not just for voting.

As your Secretary of State , Gail will fight to stop the victimization of Georgia's citizens by identity theft and investment fraud.

  • She will establish and empower the Identity Theft Prevention Board - House Bill 1666
Gail will build a new partnership in the Secretary of State's office to help prevent identity theft and fraud . The partners will include top law enforcement officers, bankers, retailers, the Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs, the Attorney General's Office and others who can stop this massive, growing crime wave.
  • She will establish and empower the Investment Fraud Prevention Board- House Bill 1665
Gail will create a new board of professionals in the Secretary of State's office comprised of securities, investment and law enforcement officers who will step up investment fraud prevention efforts.
In addition, Gail's programs will expand investment fraud education and prevention measures for senior citizens and citizen investment groups.

As your Secretary of State , Gail will fight to use licensing fees to deliver safe, effective services to Georgia's citizens.

Professional licensing fees currently are deposited into the general state fund. This is wrong! As your Secretary of State , Gail will fight to use these fees to provide additional training for the professionals who pay for licensing.

As your Secretary of State , Gail will encourage new corporations and continue improving access to state records.

  • Gail will encourage the growth of new business by bringing the power of Secretary of State into new collaborations with existing business, professional and trade association groups to train Georgia's citizens who want to incorporate their businesses.
  • Gail will expand access to all services and information, making it easier than ever to look up corporate names, fees and licensing information.

As your Secretary of State , Gail will work closely with archivists and technology experts to preserve our state records of yesterday, today and tomorrow.

  • Gail will collaborate with local officials around the state to ensure all Georgia records are protected in duplicate locations and by the newest electronic methods to prevent any information from being lost during a fire, flood or natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina.
  • The Secretary of State also is your state historian. Gail will bring Georgia's citizens together to finance and build several state museums that will tell our children, grandchildren and visitors the stories of our rich and diverse history.

As your Secretary of State , Gail will partner with other state agencies to encourage economic development. Once companies learn how easy it is to do incorporate and do business in Georgia, new jobs and growth will follow.

As your Secretary of State, Gail will work for you and all of Georgia!
