• Buckner co-founded the Partners-In-Education program, and has been a Partner and sponsor of 86 schools. This year she is a Partner with every high school in the district.

• As President of the Clayton County Council of PTAs, Buckner directed projects that won 3 national awards. With Buckner as PTA President, one school was named Georgia 's Outstanding PTA. Buckner received Honorary Life Memberships from the PTAs of Adamson Middle School and Babb Middle School .

• Gail is co-founder and former Board Chair of Rainbow House, Clayton County's emergency shelter for children, Volunteer of the Year Clayton Clean and Beautiful, commended by Clayton Juvenile Court for lifelong dedication.

• Co-founder of Clayton County 's After School Program, Prevention PLUS, Youth to Youth, the Jester's Creek Trail, and Arts Clayton. Founder and chair of the Clayton County Boys and Girls Foundation, Inc., with a goal of getting Boys and Girls Clubs in Clayton County.

• NAACP Community Service Award, Life Member NAACP, 2007 NAACP Legacy Award.

• 9 Legislator of the Year Awards from Public Health Officials, Breast Cancer Coalition of Georgia, American Academy of Pediatrics, University of Georgia Family and Consumer Science Officials, Clayton County Citizen of the Year 2002, Clayton College and State University Outstanding Alumni, Prism Award, and Technical Education Professionals.

• 16 Years elected to the Georgia House of Representatives. As your representative Buckner chaired the House Appropriations Capital Outlay Committee to help bring the State Archives to Morrow. And as chair of the House Human Services Committee and a member of the Appropriations Economic Development, Gail had the budget responsibility of billions of state dollars and thousands of state employees and programs, including the Dept. of Human Resources, the Dept. of Transportation and the Dept. of Industry, Trade & Tourism.

• In 2006 Gail Buckner was chosen statewide as the Democratic Party's candidate for Secretary of State.

She is still humbled by the great support that she received from the citizens of Clayton County .
