Newspaper cites legislative, budget experience in runoff for
Secretary of State
ATLANTA – State Rep. Gail Buckner was endorsed Thursday by the state’s
largest newspaper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, in the Aug.
8 Democratic Runoff for Georgia Secretary of State.
In the endorsement editorial, the newspaper said “… Buckner brings
years of experience that make her the better choice over political
newcomer Darryl Hicks. While Hicks has an exemplary business and
community service background, he lacks Buckner’s deep grounding
in how government and the Legislature operate and how state budgets
are created. “…
Buckner
grasps the purpose of the secretary of state’s office and has ideas
about how to improve it, including more consumer education on identity
theft, investment fraud and home buying rip-offs. As a legislator
for 16 years, she worked closely with the secretary of state and
could step into the job ready to go.”
The
AJC editorial board concluded that the secretary of state’s office
is a “job for someone who cares about details and about getting
it right. … Buckner fit(s) that bill.” A 16-year member of the House
of Repre
Gail
Buckner is the most experienced state official and the most successful
campaigner in the Democratic Primary for Georgia Secretary of State.
