Scott Holcomb backs Buckner for Secretary of State
ATLANTA
-Gail Buckner announced the endorsement of former primary rival
Scott Holcomb today, further bolstering her prospects in the August
8 run-off for Georgia Secretary of State. Buckner finished first
among six Democrats with 25.4 percent of the vote (107,554 total
votes) in last month's contest. Holcomb, an Atlanta attorney and
a 12-year veteran of the Army and Air National Guard, made an impressive
political debut by finishing with 11.5 percent of the vote (48,738
votes).
"I'm thrilled and truly honored to receive Scott's endorsement,"
Buckner said. "He mounted an issues-driven campaign that demonstrated
character and political prowess. I look forward to consulting with
him on a regular basis, and ask all of his supporters to join our
effort for victory on August 8 and again this fall in the General
Election."
"I'm pleased to endorse Gail Buckner," Holcomb said. "Gail is an
experienced and accomplished legislator who has dedicated her career
to public service in Georgia. I don't choose candidates by what
they say - I look at what they have done. In this race, I support
Gail because she has a wonderful record of service to Georgia and
she has assured me that she will continue to make election reform
a top priority. She will fight to make every vote count in Georgia.
Gail has my full support."
Holcomb
joins other prominent candidates and organizations with his endorsement.
Angela Moore, a DeKalb County business woman and third-place finisher
in the primary, has already pledged her support to Buckner's campaign
to be Georgia's next Secretary of State. A 16-year member of the
House of Representatives,
Gail
Buckner is the most experienced state official and the most successful
campaigner in the Democratic Primary for Georgia Secretary of State.
