After impressive primary victory, Buckner ready for runoff
Strong first-place finish proves Buckner is the Democrat
who can win in November
ATLANTA - On Tuesday, Georgia voters finally had their say, and
Gail Buckner emerged from the six-candidate Democratic Primary as
the clear leader in the race for Georgia Secretary of State.
Receiving
more than 106,600 votes with 97 percent of precincts reporting statewide,
Buckner held a lead of about 15,000 votes over her closest rival
and is a strong front-runner heading into the August 8 primary runoff.
"I
am thrilled with the results of Tuesday's Democratic Primary for
Secretary of State," Buckner said. "However, our work is far from
finished. We have another hurdle to clear on August 8th with the
primary runoff. I am excited about this next step, which is another
opportunity to take our message across Georgia that experience matters
and that I am the Democratic candidate who can win in November and
serve as your next Secretary of State."
Buckner's
path to victory in the primary took her to all corners of the state.
Out of the six candidates in the field, Buckner was the top vote
getter in 76 Georgia counties - including major Democratic strongholds
such as Clayton, DeKalb and Muscogee - nearly twice as many as her
runoff opponent.
Buckner
had words of praise for fellow primary candidates Angela Moore,
Shyam Reddy, Scott Holcomb and Walter Ray on their positive, issues-oriented
campaigns and is asking for their support both in the runoff and
for a united Democratic ticket in the November 7 general election.
Speaking to her supporters, Buckner said, "Thank you for all you
have done to make this first victory a reality. Over the next three
weeks, I'll need your support, your vote and most of all your prayers
to win the Democratic runoff. Please urge everyone you know - whether
or not they voted for us in the primary - to go to the polls on
August 8th and cast their ballot for Gail Buckner!"
Gail
Buckner is the most experienced state official and the most successful
campaigner in the Democratic Primary for Georgia Secretary of State.
