Buckner addresses law enforcement allies
FORSYTH - Thursday evening Rep. Gail Buckner (D-Jonesboro), the
Democratic primary frontrunner for Georgia Secretary of State, addressed
a large gathering of peace officers in Monroe County - the state's
mecca for public safety training. Buckner lauded representatives
from the GBI and other state and local agencies for their service
and dedication to Georgia's citizenry. "I am truly honored to be
among Georgia's finest this evening. You do a tremendous job and
I, along with every other Georgian, are forever in your debt." Buckner
also reminded gatherers of her many efforts to bolster the postures
of public safety and criminal justice. In the 2005-06 term alone,
Rep. Buckner authored a flurry of proposals that included measures
to create the ID Theft Prevention Board, Investment Fraud Prevention
Board, in addition to the Home Construction and Repairs Prevention
Board - a measure to guard against "flim-flam" schemes that are
usually perpetrated upon the elderly (House Bills 1665 and 1666).
The longtime public servant also discussed her proposed measure
(HB 638) that requires consumer reporting agencies to alert citizens
as soon as security breaches are discovered. The panels advocated
by Buckner would include representatives from advocacy groups, the
GBI, construction, and banking and investment communities. Buckner
added that "only through open dialogue and the spirit of cooperation
can we begin to offer the safeguards that Georgians deserve". Throughout
her legislative career, Gail Buckner has been a tireless advocate
for consumer rights, public safety, and the rule of law. She has
gone toe-toe with big insurance to protect homeowners and hospital
patients, serving as a guardian of Georgia's underdogs.
Gail
Buckner is the most experienced state official and the most successful
campaigner in the Democratic Primary for Georgia Secretary of State.
